News Anchor Korina Sanchez Fatally Wounded
QUEZON - The Philippines is in shock as ABS-CBN's renowned news anchor, Korina Sanchez, was assaulted in her hotel room. Detectives found multiple stab wounds on her back, left knee and neck. The National Bureau of Investigation has declared the hotel hallway and her room a crime scene while investigations continue.
Korina Maria Sanchez-Roxas, or as she's known by her professional name Korina Sanchez, was stabbed to in a hotel in Quezon City. The 50 year old broadcast journalist recently came under fire for her comments on the typhoon Hagupit (known in the Philippines as Ruby). Video below.
Sanchez garnered attention for suggesting that the typhoon should just go to Japan instead since they're more prepared for a natural disaster than the Philippines. The Japanese and Filipino-Japanese community in the Philippines was outraged by the remark which led to an apparent persona non grata of the newspaper columnist in Japan.
Investigations are still underway and a suspect is yet to be named by the Philippine National Police. Several CCTV footage of the area where the radio anchor was attempted to be murdered are already being reviewed. Stay tuned to Manila Link for more updates on this case.
