FACEBOOK - Facebook, Inc. has released a new list of keywords and phrases that are now considered as spam by the Facebook website. Among the 322 is the phrase "proud to be Pinoy" which caused an outrage with the Filipino online community.

"Ano bang masama sa pagiging proud na Pinoy?" ("What's wrong with being a proud Pinoy?") Thousands of Filipino Facebook users posted on Facebook's official corporate page in droves as the announcement was made. The phrase was auto-flagged as spam by the website's bots, but the system administrators have no plans to remove the flag.

"We trust our anti-spam bots and if it's saying that the phrase should be considered as spam, then it is," said Stephen Cobweb as he addressed the media in Menlo Park. "Thousands of accounts post the phrase whenever a Filipino achieves some global recognition, but that phrase itself doesn't contribute to the conversation. It's meaningless exhibition of pride that's clogging up the users' timelines," he added.

Posts containing the phrase will be silently omitted after 7 days and will not appear on public trends unless used under a hashtag (#) symbol. Facebook has stated that it will be firm with its decision to flag the phrase as spam.

YOUTUBE - The #1 media streaming website on the internet, YouTube, has announced that they will be removing in-video advertisements in favor of monthly subscription a la Hulu and Netflix. Free streaming will still be available, but will have mandatory 30-second to 5-minute ads before the video.

"All content will be on demand like how it is now, but we will have an option to subscribe as a premium member of YouTube," said YouTube and Google spokesperson Jordan Broad. "It will be called YouTube VIP or YTVIP. If you have it, you won't get ads on the start of the video. If you don't, you'll be watching a 30-second to 5-minute ad before the video starts."

Broad also confirmed that the ads are going to be based on the user's browsing history. "All the collected data from Google search, Google+ and past YouTube videos that you've watched will be taken into account before we play the ad," he said.

The announcement has been met by mixed reactions from social media. Others understood that this is vital for YouTube to continue as a top-level platform for content distribution while others felt "betrayed." The subscription will be transitioning into functionality within this year according to the press release from Google.

MOSCOW - With Vladimir Putin's ongoing campaign against Russia's freedom of speech, he has requested access to Google, Facebook and Twitter's user data. Failure to comply with the Russian leader will result in the ban of the three websites in the country.

According to The Huffington Post, Vadim Ampelonskiy spoke with CNBC on Friday. The spokesman for Roskomnadzor said, "Such correspondence is regular in dealing with foreign internet companies. Usually after sending official requests and letters, we can see some positive movements and progress in communication. Roskomnadzor hopes this time all the compailes will respond again and will fulfill those requirements, which were asked many times before."

Observers have reported that this is one more step towards an authoritarian government that has been progressing since 2012. The reason why the country is requesting access to sensitive data is not yet known to the public.

MAKATI - MMDA has published a statement that prohibits the blockbuster film franchise The Fast and the Furious to film its 8th installment "Fast & Furious 8" to be taped in Epifanio de los Santos Avenue, commonly known as EDSA, in the Philippines.

Vin Diesel, who visited the Philippines in 2013, wanted a set of scenes to be filmed in the country for his Fast & Furious 8 project. The scenes would've involved Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez and Ludacris among other names. He filed the request early May 2015 to the MMDA board, but was rejected.

The MMDA published a statement on their Facebook page and website that they have publicly declined Vin Diesel's request to film in the EDSA area due to the roads that would've been involved. "The heavy traffic in the area would have been tripled if we closed the lanes that Vin Diesel requested for the taping," said the press release.

The crew of Fast & Furious 8 are still scouting to possibly film in Southeast Asia, but the "failure to grant this one wish" turned off Vin Diesel which means having any scenes filmed in the Philippines is very slim.

The Fast and Furious 7 movie was a big hit in Philippine theaters which prompted an online petition to bring the FAST crew to the Philippines upon the film's release.

TWITTER - WWE Superstar Daniel Bryan has announced his retirement on Twitter after complications with his arm injury that spans back to 2013.

Daniel Bryan is one of the most well-known and beloved wrestlers of the modern age and made 2014 his year after he finally won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 31 in a Triple Threat Match against Randy Orton and Batista. Shortly after that, he has not been able to wrestle due to multiple injuries since June.

Bryan made a return to WWE in late 2014 after the downfall of Triple H and Stephanie McMahon's "The Authority" faction to add insult to injury but only temporary as they would return to power under a month later.

Next year, on WrestleMania 32, he was able to capture the elusive WWE Intercontinental Championship to cap off his career as we would soon find out that it was his last title.

It was announced today (Australian time) through Twitter that Bryan, after consulting his doctor due to sudden numbness in his arm, has been forced to retire due to not being medically cleared much like Edge before him in 2011.

Daniel Bryan has released a book titled "Yes!: My Improbable Journey to the Main Event of WrestleMania" which can be bought by clicking here.

CEBU - A church in Cebu, Philippines has announced their intentions to ban gays from attending future masses including the traditional Sunday mass. The LGBT community was outraged by the announcement and took it to social media.

The church which did not wish to be named on this publication has posted on their Facebook page and on the gates of the church a three-paragraph memo that stated all gays are not allowed to come within their grounds. "Those who are gay should not come to our church and disrespect the Lord with their presence," the memo stated.

"That's what I'd call blasphemy," said a member of the LGBT community on the popular social networking site Twitter. #LGBTCebu trended for 6 hours worldwide last night and is still a trending topic in the Philippines as of the time of this posting. "Sino sila para sabihin na bawal na kaming mag-simba at pumasok sa simbahan ng Diyos?" ("Who are they to tell us that we are no longer allowed to worship and enter the Lord's church?") asked Felix Banaba on Facebook.

How the church reacts to this backlash from social media will be the focus in these next few days. Other churches within the area are considering following the same footsteps if the ban is successfully implemented. Cebu's municipal government is yet to publish a statement regarding the ban.

LAS VEGAS - After Floyd Mayweather's unanimous decision victory over Manny Pacquiao, talks have began to set the superbout rematch in Manila, Philippines. "We have to do it while these fighters are at their prime," boxing promoter Bob Arum said to the media in the post-fight conference.

"It's not boxing without controversy," said Arum to the media as he confirmed the rumors of Pacquiao's right shoulder injury. "Floyd, as good as he is, didn't beat a 100% Manny Pacquiao. That will taint his legacy and he'll want for a rematch if he's as great as his camp says he is."

Pacquiao's camp didn't let the media in his locker room so he was not available for an interview. The still-undefeated Floyd Mayweather, Jr. talked to the reporters saying that he "[won't] back down from the challenge" and that he has "already outclassed and out-boxed Manny Pacquiao in 12 consecutive rounds."

Bob Arum did not give any dates yet, but he's looking at next year's spring to do the superbout rematch in Manila. "We might do Araneta Coliseum or that new arena Malls [sic] Of Asia Arena if we do the fight in Manny's homeland," he said to close the interview.

A round-by-round analysis of the fight was available via The Washington Post.
